Testaccio Uncovered -

As an architect, I was pretty excited about this tour, and it didn't disappoint. The Ex Mattatoio was incredible — exactly the kind of industrial archaeology I love. The social housing blocks, the old Post Office, and Fire Station were all really interesting too, especially hearing how they fit into the neighbourhood's development. That massive Jumping Wolf mural was stunning in person. Valentina had a good balance — informative without being overly academic about it, which I appreciated. I liked how we moved between ancient Roman remains, early 1900s buildings, and just... normal daily life in the area. Lunch at the food market was simple but perfect — I tried the famous supplì from Supplizio and some fried cod. Good way to actually experience the neighbourhood rather than just look at it. If you're into architecture, urban planning, or just want to see a side of Rome that doesn't involve dodging selfie sticks, this is a solid choice.

A fantastic tour of an area less frequented by tourists. Valentina was delightful, We had a truly enjoyable and informative 4 hours with her learning the history of the area, including sociological and demographic changes, from Roman times to the present. one of many highlights was a tour of the markets where Valentina had researched locations able to cater to my partner's dietary requirements (Coeliac). Highly recommend this tour.

I did this tour on my own and I'm really glad I did. It was relaxed and took me to places I definitely wouldn't have found myself. Valentina was lovely — really easy to chat with and you could tell she genuinely enjoys what she does. I'm a bit of a food nerd, so I was excited about the breakfast Maritozzo, but honestly the Trapizzino stop was the best part for me. I tried tongue with green sauce (a "quinto quarto" dish) and it was way better than it sounds. Not something I'd have been brave enough to order on my own! The cemetery was surprisingly beautiful. And Valentina told us tons of stories about the artists, poets, and political figures buried there. I hadn't realized how much Roman history was concentrated in this neighbourhood. We saw Monte Testaccio — artificial hill made entirely from broken Roman jars — plus the Aurelian Wall and the Pyramid of Cestius. Perfect for anyone who wants to experience Rome like a local, I would definitely recommend it.
